Farewell, Friends

Tomorrow will be the final performance of one of Carbondale's finest bands, Himalayas. Across 3 EPs and the better half of 10 years, they've played some of the best shows I've ever seen in Carbondale, many of the best actually. All good things must come to an end, and bassist Jef Hill is making the move to Portland, so now is the time. Tomorrow is definitely a show not to be missed, and Young Loves and Drunk Virago will open up. Himalayas laid down 5 tracks to tape last weekend at the Skihouse, so soon you'll have a little something extra to remember them by. Thanks for all the good times dudes, it was awesome.

2nite

Blogger has been on the fritz all week (is it because of Joel Fritzler?) so we haven't had a chance to talk about the two great shows happening tonight until now.. so let's do it right now! Chicago's Ga'an, Iowa City's Alex Body, and our very own Drunk Virago are playing at the Skihaus tonight, on mister Nicholas Sandino's birthday! Ga'an is sweet as hell, and so is Nick, so check it out.

Pokey LaFarge & The South City Three are playing at Hangar tonight, and if you haven't seen them one of the many times they have played here before, maybe you've seen them on the internets lately 'cause the've been blowing up everywhere! They've been featured on NPR a bunch (check out their tiny desk concert), Jack White recorded some songs with them and put them out via his Third Man record label, etc etc. Swamp Tigers will open up, and possibly Whistle Pigs will be playing in the beer garden?? Tix $8 at the door but you can still get the presale price of $6 today if you go grab a ticket at Hangar 9, Plaza Records, or PMAC.

Partonomy

Two of Carbondale's finest are making us proud. Both Parlor and Autonomy have new releases out or on their way very soon, and they are about to depart on a quick tour together that will take them all the way up and down the West Coast and back around again. Autonomy has an 8-song cassette demo that is available now, and Parlor's 11-song LP that was released on cassette tape last Fall by Let's Pretend is being re-released on 12" vinyl!! No word yet on when the records will be in, but we are hoping (and they probably are too) that it will be available any day now. I saw a phone pic of the test pressing and boy does it look pertty. Both releases are coming out on a new label called Social Collapse!, based right here in Carbondale! I wish we had more to tell you about that, but as of right now it has been pretty tight-lipped.

The dudes are playing a tour kick-off show tomorrow (like, thurs 5/12) at the Dude Ranch, which is across from the Treehouse (RIP). The Shakes are playing as well, and it is only $3, which is an insane deal so go support 'em cause gas ain't cheap! THE SHOW STARTS AT 9p AND WILL END BEFORE MIDNIGHT SO GET THERE ON TIME YOU SLACKERS.

Here be the dates:

5/16 - Chicago, IL @ Pancho's
5/17 - Milwaukee, WI @ Ground Zero
