There is a pretty sweet psychedelic blowout happening at Hangar 9 on Thursday. Local fav's Freedom Ride will be blasting on the big stage for the first time, and we will have quite the treat of having both Denver's Woodsman and Philly's Arches in town, all on the same night. Woodsman has a slew of records out, including ones on hip labels like Mexican Summer and Lefese, and has received praise on both Pitchfork and Stereogum, among other places. Arches just self-released their debut LP, and have got love on Pitchfork as well and also on Altered Zones, Paste, etc.
While we're on the topic of new releases.. Diarrhea Planet's debut LP Loose Jewels came out today via Infinity Cat Recordings. The Nashville boys and their 4 guitars will be in town over the weekend, they and their sister band Big Surr are both recording for new releases at the Skihouse, and they will both be playing a show at Tres Hombres with Wild Murphy & The New Year on Saturday. Come out and grab the new LP, DP never disappoints!
Man I try not to talk about it because I feel like we've gushed enough.. but Ty Segall just keeps on killing it!! If you haven't got to hear his new LP, Goodbye Bread, which came out on Drag City a few months back, it is definitely one of the best jams of the summer. We've been trying to get him back to Carby for a while, but it keeps falling through. If you're like us though, you can't wait and maybe you should go see him play one of the two amazing shows he is playing close by this week! He is playing at Exit/In in Nashville tomorrow for only $6, with Heavy Cream and D. Watusi (who both rule), and then he is playing at Goner Fest 8 in Memphis on Thursday!
OH, and Mikal Cronin is playing both of those shows as well! THAT SHOULD SEAL THE DEAL!! He is the man behind Moonhearts (who you may remember blew us away last summer), has released albums with Ty, and just released his solo debut TODAY on one of our fav labels, Chicago's Trouble In Mind. Those shows will rule!
And I almost forgot the whole reason I wanted to make this post! I just heard that this year we will also see the release of Ty Segall - Singles 2007-2010 LP from Goner Records on November 22. I snagged this from him last summer on cassette via Psychic Snerts, and DAMN it is good. I am always scared I will wear the tape out, because it hass all the hard to find jams, but fear not, the vinyl version is coming! That makes 4, yes FOUR, 12" LP releases for Ty Segall in 2011. Almost keeping up with Thee Oh Sees..
Our Nashville pal Daniel Pujol recently inked a deal with Saddle Creek Records to release his new EP, which will be coming out on October 4th. One of the tracks was featured on NPR's All Songs Considered today, and it sounds pretty damn good! OH YEAH, he is playing at Hangar 9 next Thursday with Turbo Fruits and The Shakes, I'll bet he will even have the new EP! Can't wait.
YEAH THAT'S RIGHT. NOBUNNY is playing at Skihouse tomorrow night, and damn will it be the jam. If you aren't familiar with Nobunny, a quick google image search will give you a pretty decent idea, but he also has a string of jams out on gems like GonerRecords, Burger Records, 1234GO!, Third Man, etc. Coming all the way from Oakland, CA, he is in the midwest to play Goner Fest 8 next weekend, and for a few tour dates with San Francisco's GIRLS. So stoked he is coming to Carby.. Thank you NOBUNNY!
Tuesday Sept. 13th NOBUNNY + Autonomy ++ The Shakes @ Skihaüs (317 w walnut) 10p, all-ages, $5
THE SWAMPis back! And we're here to assure you that tomorrow will not be your typical Monday night. Three bands from Allston, Massachusetts will be invading our town & you don't want to miss them! PILE is one of my favorite bands & I cannot express how thrilled I am to have the chance to show them to you all!! HUNNIE BUNNIES and CHRONIC SPELLS have been touring together for the past few weeks and their unusual performance is certainly something to witness! We're also extremely lucky to have FREEDOM RIDE & WEI ZHONGLE playing for us! They're both from Carbondale but they don't play that often so now's your chance to see them!! I know many of you may be appalled by the 8PM start time but please come early because we have a lot of bands and we don't want to run too late and disturb the neighbors - we want to keep having shows throughout the year! Yeah! Hope to see you tomorrow - I'm new to town and would love to meet you all!! -- Meaghan

Better get your homework or whatever other responsibilities you have for the next week done today... cuz starting today there is pretty much an awesome show every day for the next week.
It's all starting tonight with the beginning of the Carbondale Rocks Revival festival, which is organized by our buddies Curtis & Matt (who book at PKs & Tres, respectively, and the Varsity Center for the Arts). You can check out the full schedule here, but the two shows we are most excited about are:
Thursday Sept. 8th
KENTUCKY KNIFE FIGHT
+ Secondary Modern
++ Pretty Little Empire
@ Hangar 9
10p, 19+, $4
Friday Sept. 9th
NIGHTY NIGHT + Brian Lee & His Orchestra
++ Kid Tiger
+++ Eric Stanley
@ Hangar 9
9p, 19+, $5
Then onward... First show at The Swamp 2.0 on Monday, NOBUNNY at Skihaus on Tuesday, Those Darlins at Hangar 9 on Thursday, and PTERODACTYL and more on Friday.. Get to work!
Tomorrow our buddy Daniel Francis Doyle will be coming to town, all the way from Austin, Texas. He played the Skihaus last fall with Flight from Mississippi and Himalayas, and he blew a lot of minds with his intense, no-nonsense 1-man show, which is probably the finest example of 1-man-band-itry we have ever seen. He has just started performing with two additional members, so this show will be one of the first chances anyone outside of Austin has had to experience the new lineup. Dan Senteighty and Dolphin Logic (a new synth duo comprised of Drunk Virago's Howard Steeley and James McKain) will finish out the night.
